How amounts read, rounding, and the "*" after a figure

Every amount carries its currency, crypto amounts round only on screen, and a figure that leaves something out says so with "*".

Every amount names its currency

FullFi always shows which currency or asset an amount is in: −84.12 CAD, 0.019 ETH, 1,250 USDC on Base. Never a bare "$", because in a ledger with several currencies it could mean any of them. A token on another network is named with its network, such as "USDC on Base", so two tokens with the same symbol never look alike.

Regular currencies keep their usual decimals: two for CAD or EUR, none for JPY.

Crypto amounts, rounded only on screen

A token can have 18 decimals, which doesn't fit on a phone. So FullFi rounds crypto amounts on screen, to the precision you choose under Settings → You → Display:

  • Auto (the default) keeps 4 decimals, 2 past a million, and about 4 significant digits below 1, so a small amount never reads as zero.
  • 2, 4, 6, or 8 keeps at most that many decimals.
  • Full shows every digit.

A rounded amount starts with ≈, such as ≈1.2346 ETH. Hover over it, focus it with the keyboard, or tap it to see every digit, and press it to copy the exact value. An amount too small to show reads <0.0001 ETH, never 0.

Rounding is for reading only. Balances, totals, and reports always add up the exact amounts, and the precision you pick applies to you alone, in every workspace.

The "*" after a figure

FullFi never guesses an exchange rate or a price, and never counts something it can't price as zero. When a figure in your base currency can't include everything, it leaves the rest out and ends in "*". Usually that's an amount with no rate to your base currency on its day. On the Goals and Recurring pages, it can also be a goal or a recurring item kept in another currency.

A short note under the figure says what it leaves out, such as "Leaves out 2 assets without a rate" or "Leaves out amounts in USD and ETH without a rate". For a missing rate, See what's missing opens the item in Ledger → Needs attention that names the first day each currency needs a rate. Add the rate, or turn on fetched rates, and the "*" goes away. See multiple currencies.

You'll see it on your net worth on the dashboard, and on reports, budgets, goals, recurring items, and the investment forecast.

Not final yet

An amount with a dotted underline isn't final: it's pending, expected, or accrued, and may still change. See Realized and Total.
