Recording offline, and never recording twice

Quick entry keeps working when the connection drops. The entry waits on your device, encrypted, and is sent once you're back, exactly once.

What works offline

Only quick entry, the one line that N opens, on a page you opened while you were online. Write what happened as usual and press Record: FullFi keeps the entry on this device and says so. The full record form, imports, and every other change need a connection.

FullFi doesn't keep your ledger on your device, on purpose. Pages that are already open keep showing what they showed, but a page you open while offline only says you're offline, and reloads on its own once you're back.

Members who can only view a workspace can't record, online or off.

While it waits

Entries waiting to be sent are listed at the top of the page, in the workspace you recorded them in. They're sent on their own when the connection comes back, oldest first, or when you select Send now. Each one is recorded on the day you wrote, such as "yesterday", not the day it's sent. Until then, it counts nowhere.

If the workspace refuses an entry when it arrives, for example because your role changed, it says why and stays listed until you select Discard this entry. Nothing is sent again on its own after a refusal.

How it's kept

A waiting entry is stored in this browser, encrypted with a key that FullFi's server derives for you, this workspace, and this session. The key is never stored, on the server or on the device: the open page holds it in memory, and can't hand it out.

  • Signing out deletes the waiting entries from this device. If some haven't been sent, FullFi asks before signing out.
  • A session that ends another way, because it expired or you signed it out from another device, leaves its entries unreadable. FullFi says so and offers to discard them: check your ledger and record again what's missing.

Never recorded twice

Each entry carries its own id from the moment you write it. A double click, a second tab, a connection that drops before FullFi answers, or an entry sent again after coming back online all reuse that id, and FullFi records it once. If the connection drops mid-way, the line says it may not be recorded and keeps what you wrote: press Record again, and it won't be recorded twice.
